Brain Imaging

The “crown jewels” of the Brain Imaging CoEE are two 3 Tesla Siemens Trio MRI systems, one at the McCausland Imaging Center at Palmetto Health and the second at MUSC’s Center for Advanced Imaging Research, which opened in 2008, and the Bruker 7-Tesla MRI which is also at MUSC. The scanners are compatible, enabling collaborative research between the University of South Carolina, MUSC and Palmetto Health, and creating exciting opportunities for funded studies by government and private industry. These scanners also are used to advance patient care in the Midlands and Lowcountry. The Brain Imaging CoEE also has enabled a statewide group of neuroscientists, physicists, bioengineers, and computer science specialists to work together on new treatments.
