Dr. Mark George named one of 14 pioneers in medicine
MUSC's Mark George, MD, one of the original co-principal investigators of the Brain Imaging Center, is a national leader in his field. In 2009, Dr. George was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of 14 pioneers in medicine.
A Distinguished University Professor and neurologist within the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at MUSC, Dr. George was recognized for his work with magnetic depression treatment, which was approved in 2008 by the Food and Drug Administration.
U.S. News & World Report, known for ranking the top colleges and universities, careers and places to live, picked Dr. George as one of the nation's top pioneers in medicine along with 13 other researchers from such distinguished institutions as Harvard, Wake Forest, and Northwestern.
HSSC President and CEO Jay Moskowitz says Dr. George's selection is a testament to South Carolina's growing biomedical research cluster and an environment that encourages researchers to excel. "To be selected among the top medical pioneers in the country is an incredible honor for Dr. George, MUSC and the people of South Carolina. His selection speaks volumes about his talent, his passion for patients with brain injuries, and his efforts to advance research in South Carolina.”
