Education and Outreach to Providers of EHRs

April 5, 2010

Educating providers and creating informed “consumers” of electronic health records (EHR) is a high priority for the CITIA-SC Center. We believe providers who are knowledgeable about EHR functionality, the implementation process, and effective use of the EHR to improve patient care will be highly successful EHR adopters.  With our partners we were able to:

  • deliver EHR-based training programs to practicing physicians, resident physicians and practice staff
  • leverage existing preceptor network to develop physician EHR champions who promoted the benefits of EHR adoption and EHR best practices.
  • formulate and disseminate best practices designed to improve patient care offered through the Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs)
  • 6-part workshop series (onsite and web-based) that included detailed sessions on pre-work, assessment, planning, system selection, implementation, post-live evaluation and using the EHR for clinical quality improvement
  • develop and leverage an interactive website containing self-paced modules, videotaped programs, or after hours video conferencing and live webinars through a provider portal for the purposes of educating providers on the basics of EHRs, their implementation, and the use of EHRs for quality improvement purposes
