Promoting Our Value: Data Resources and Tools for Clinical Research (DART)

January 15, 2016

Health Sciences South Carolina (HSSC) offers many benefits to member organizations. With a suite of health informatics tools, wide ranging expertise and data from the Clinical Data Warehouse, HSSC can be a one stop shop for researchers. However, as useful as these tools and services are, they are of no value to individuals who have never heard of them. In order to acquaint faculty, employees, and staff at member organizations to all the benefits HSSC offers them, HSSC now offers a short training seminar: Data Resources and Tools for Clinical Research (DART).

DART introduces participants to HSSC’s array of research tools, the scope of the Clinical Data Warehouse, as well as how to request datasets for research purposes. Participants receive hands-on training with i2b2, the Clinical Data Warehouse query tool. By the end of the seminar, participants are able to navigate HSSC tools and find the information they need.

By the end of 2015, 19 DART training seminars with more than 250 participants had been held; additional sessions are planned for 2016. Sessions are held in person or via webinar.
