Surgical Quality Collaborative Meets to Share Successes and Discuss Next Steps

April 28, 2015

The South Carolina Surgical Quality Collaborative (SQC) continues to make significant strides. At the SQC quarterly meeting in April 2015, Dr. Mark Lockett from the Medical University  of South Carolina presented an update on the latest evidence-based guidance regarding blood transfusion and preventing CAUTIs.  Dr. Hrishikesh Chakraborty from the University of South Carolina, director of the SQC Data Coordinating Center, additionally presented aggregate bowel surgery outcomes, with an emphasis on preventable complications and readmission.

Participants discussed how their sites are beginning to use the real time data gained from SQC participation to drive meaningful action and ultimately improve patient care. In the coming months, sites will be working together to engage patients as advisors to enhance and accelerate the improvement programs.  The SQC will be part of a featured presentation in the upcoming American College of Surgeons North Carolina/South Carolina Chapter 2016 Annual Meeting in July.
