Earlier in April, HSSC had the honor of sponsoring the 8th Annual Lewis W. Blackman Patient Safety Champion Awards alongside the South Carolina Hospital Association, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, and PHT Services. Named after a bright and talented 15-year-old South Carolina boy who died from a tragic preventable medical error, these awards celebrate the leaders and caregivers who make healthcare better and safer in South Carolina.
We'd like to congratulate the winners for their exceptional work on behalf of all South Carolinians: Dr. Elizabeth Cuttrell and Dr. Ann Simonin of The University of South Carolina and Palmetto Health, Dr. Michael O'Boyle of Bon Secours St. Francis, Ann Waters of Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Caroline DeLongchamps of the Medical University of South Carolina, and Carolyn Reeves, a nursing student at Clemson. A special thanks to Helen Haskeel, president of Mothers Against Medical Error for her continued dedication to this critical issue.
