Why Are We Doing It

The Regional Health Information Exchange (HIE) has shown important benefits including reduced cost of care, improved quality of care, reduced lengths of stay, and reduced exposure to ionizing radiation for Emergency Department (ED) patients who had information in an HIE.  MUSC researchers have demonstrated savings of >$1M in avoided charges per participating organization in the first year of operation.
