Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), an independent nonprofit, nongovernmental organization located in Washington, DC, was authorized by Congress in 2010.  PCORI’s mandate is to improve the quality and relevance of evidence available to help patients, caregivers, clinicians, employers, insurers, and policymakers make informed health decisions. Specifically, PCORI funds comparative clinical effectiveness research as well as supports work that will improve the methods used to conduct such studies.

PCORI helps people make informed healthcare decisions, and improves healthcare delivery and outcomes, by producing and promoting high-integrity, evidence-based information that comes from research guided by patients, caregivers and the broader healthcare community.

PCORI is funding the development of the PCORnet Midsouth Clinical Data Network (CDRN), an HSSC enabled initiative. This CDRN builds capacity for conducting both randomized trials and observational comparative effectiveness studies using data from their practices and patient populations.
