Christine Carr, MD

Chief Clinical Officer

With over 20 years in clinical, research, administrative, and leadership experience, Dr. Christine Carr serves as the Chief Clinical Officer for Health Sciences South Carolina.   Her expertise in clinical informatics was an integral component in launching the Carolina eHealth Alliance (CeHA), bringing together four major competing hospital systems to implement one of the most robust ED-based HIE’s in the country.  

In addition to her role at HSSC, Dr. Carr is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina as well as the Senior Clinical Advisor for the South Carolina Hospital Association where she chairs the Clinical Leadership Council.  Additionally, she serves as the American College of Emergency Physicians representative to the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Health Guidelines Revisions Committee and serves on the FGI Steering Committee.  She was also the first physician from MUSC to receive the “Phenomenal Women in Business” award, recognizing her as a business woman that is making a difference in Charleston.  

Dr. Carr is a graduate of Cornell University and earned her M.D. at the Medical University of South Carolina.  Her internship and residency were completed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.  Additionally, she completed the American College of Physician Executives Certified Physician Executive program in 2016, earning her CPE.
