Clinical Data Request

The Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW) is the cornerstone of HSSC’s infrastructure. The wealth of data it contains is available to researchers and clinicians conducting approved research.

Features

Data Pull

Access data from the CDW (limited data sets, PHI, institutionally aggregated data) that is secure and private for use in clinical research studies, public health research, quality improvement studies, and other studies as appropriate. Access to data and associated research tools are provided through an established approval process in a secure workspace environment.

Data Merge

With proper approval, HSSC’s data tools enable data merges and can be provided in the form of a custom data mart. Data sources must be provided by the researcher/clinician and have proper approval. Data may be combined or merged with data from the CDW that is secure and private for use in clinical research studies, public health research, quality improvement, and other appropriate studies. Access to data and associated research tools are provided through an established approval process in a secure workspace environment.

Background

The CDW is comprised of data from more than 2.8 million individual patients of all ages from across South Carolina, 38 million individual encounters, 64 million diagnoses, six million procedures, 16 million medication orders, and 22 million medication administrations. The CDW was created for research purposes, but the architecture also supports secondary uses for aggregated or non-aggregated data, including clinical data marts that individual members can deploy for their unique purposes. Clinical data marts are an example of optional services that HSSC can provide to leverage the information infrastructure. The architecture is designed to protect patient privacy, confidentiality, and data security.
